Beryl Mountain Guided History & Collecting Tour

This is a collecting / guided tour trip. First meetup is 9-930am at 2 Main st., Alstead NH 03602. Jim will setup show and tell pieces from his museum collection on minerals that can be found in the area. He will also have some lapidary pieces for sale for anyone interested.

From there, we will caravan to the Beryl Mountain locality for 10am and meet at the bottom of the trail where Jim will give the 1st part of the Beryl Mountain history. The hike is 1/2 mile, and steep in 2 or 3 places.

We will walk halfway up the trail and stop at a level spot where Jim will give the 2nd part of the history lesson and prospecting areas. 3rd history lesson is given when we reach the 'Cooling Off Lounge'. This is where Jim will be until 3pm for any mineral ID or further questions. Jim is also available to take select groups to the summit.

We will be mining the tailings. This area has a history of very high concentrations of Beryl that were discarded after mining for Quartz. An area is available for those looking to use larger tools like sledgehammers.

Crack hammer (3lb pound hammer)

Rock Hammers

3 pronged hand rake

Eye protection

Sledge Hammer for bigger boulders *optional

Good footwear

Water, snacks and lunch

Storage for your specimens i.e. buckets / packs

$15 per member, cash

Kids under 21 free.
