Saturday, June 3rd 9am - 4pm
Join us at the Hewitt Gem Mine for a fun day of mineral hunting! Open to ages 10 and up, children must be under close supervision at all times. This location offers something for everyone as there are many dump piles to surface collect and sift, as well as an exposed rock wall that can be worked with hand tools or power tools
The cost to member is $15 per person for anyone who is using hand tools. Power tools are an additional $10 ($25 in total). Please bring cash or check to make your payment. The club will be covering $15/pp. Everyone must be a member to attend.
There are many different minerals to find at the Hewitt Gem Mine. Several members were able to find stunning pieces over the last few years, including beryls, garnets, lepidolite, and smoky quartz points. https://www.mindat.org/loc-23091.html
Recommended Tools:
Surface Collecting : hand garden claw or small shovel, sifter, gloves
Hand Tools : Hammer, Chisel, safety glasses, gloves
Power Tools : please use proper equipment for the job as well as safety glasses and hard hat.
Hard toe shoes are recommended but not required. Proper footwear is required, please be mindful. Safety colors are always a good idea as it is easier for other members to see you when working in close areas.

** Please pack appropriately - bring plenty of food, snacks, and water. There are no bathrooms on site, however there is a Dunkin' Donuts not far back in town. The club leader will have first aid if you shall need it.
Directions:
Choose a route south: 95, 295 to 395, or 90 to 84
Whichever you choose, make your way to route 9 heading to Haddam, CT
Take exit 8 - Beaver Meadow Rd (if you are coming north on rt 9, you’ll turn right onto Beaver Meadow
Go almost 1 mile then turn right on Turkey Hill Rd
In about 0.5 mi, you’ll see #197 on the right
The mine driveway will be on the left
The road is uphill and windy
{If you miss the turn, you’ll come to Gospel Church at 220 Turkey Hill Rd and you can turn around there.}
